Putting Architecture First with Statement Pieces
My work at SDA lighting has largely focused on lighting products that enhance architecture. Specification grade performance downlights, great low-glare linear pieces, or lights that tuck into tiny niches. But over the last few years, SDA partnered with manufacturers that are not strictly architectural lighting, but could also create feature elements that drive or enhance the design.
Barrisol
The Barrisol membrane is the highest performance stretch material on the market with a series of stunning capabilities. Of course, there’s the classic backlighting for effect and for ambient light like his example.
But Barrisol is more than just backlighting the membrane can be treated and painted to create a wide variety of visual effects - like mirrors
Barrisol can also effectively replicate other materials like marble and wood at fraction of the cost for both materials and installation.
And of course, you can create luminous imagery.
Lightglass
Designed to replicate the feel of skylights and windows in space with neither, Lightglass is a one-of-a-kind product in the marketplace. It installs like a window and provides the illusion of a window, but delivers high quality artificial light that can be tuned throughout the day.
Electric Mirror
The #1 name in illuminated mirrors with a ton of options to fit every look from high-end residential design to hospitality and healthcare projects. The examples below are just a few of the dozens of mirrors they stock, not to mention their bespoke options for higher quantity projects.
ALVA / Auberge
These sister brands bring high-quality lighting to projects ranging from multi-family to hospitality to healthcare. These looks are affordable and repeatable with sconces for both indoors and outdoor applications.
Armstrong Ceiling Solutions
Armstrong ceilings represent about 70% of the acoustical ceiling market in the US. Over the years, Armstrong has developed partnerships with specific manufacturers to make lighting for these ceilings seamless and even beautiful. We offer a variety of Armstrong solutions below from Aron Lighting, JLC-Tech, and USAI.
JLC-Tech
JLC-Tech invented the category of lighting designed to be integrated directly into Armstrong ceilings and was one of the first Armstrong partners. The original T-Bar LED still sets the standard for this integration, but JLC-Tech has not stood still offering optics, indirect solutions, and new form factors.
Aron Lighting
Aron Lighting is innovating how lighting and technology can live within the dropped grid ceiling. What started has a simple product offering is evolving into a system for modernizing buildings.
USAI
USAI is the nation’s premier downlighting company and through their partnership with Armstrong ceilings can create stunning trimless-in-tile downlights that not only look awesome but will save time on labor and installation.
Feature Installations with Hemera
Hemera is a wonderful lighting company out of the Montreal area. They make beautiful stand-alone fixtures, but they can also partner with Architects and interior designers to build custom signature pieces.
Decorative Fixtures with Modern Forms
Modern Forms offers aggressively priced but high-design decorative lighting fixtures. These are fixtures that probably land on the FF+E package and we would love to assist you in getting them specified. The six shown below are the tiniest sliver of their overall offering.
