Creating See-Thru Mesh Lighting Effects with SACO
On a few recent projects, I’ve been asked how to create a “mesh” or “scrim” like effect with LEDs. SACO has done this a few times, and with a variety of visual effects. Here are some examples:
NIN Tension Tour
This is the most recent example of a scrim-like LED wall created by SACO. Using their LED Mesh panels interlocked, the wall becomes impossible to see through when self-illuminated, but then when there’s light behind it, figures appear.
SACO products are built to architectural standards and we can enclose them in any metal fabrication to make them look “cooler.” See the panels in action…
All SACO product is video-driven, so it can project things as simple as color fields all the way up to complex video.
U2 Innocence + Experience Tour
This is another example using a tighter pitch and coordinating the video to reveal the band at different moments.
For this performance, the band played between two video walls and appeared and disappeared in conjunction with the video. Amazing. Here’s some video of the wall in action.
SOFI Stadium Roof
Let’s take that effect to the architectural level and look at the roof of SoFi Stadium. In this application V-Pix is used as a nodal system to display video which when viewed from the air can create any signage, the translucent panels allow for the field to be visible through the roof.
SACO will coordinate the design of the installation with other vendors to achieve these kinds of amazing results,
Blue Sun - Volumetric Solar Equation Gallery
One last more sculptural example.
This is an example of using the V-stick product and mixing light levels to create bold volumetric effects. This sculpture is also projecting video but in a low res color field to create a piece that appears both flat and spherical depending on the viewing angle.
