The Best Tape and Extrusion Products on the Market Come from Luminii
Luminii, Optic Arts and Express - Here’s the difference
When you go on the Luminii website, you’re going to find a bar listing all of the sub-brands under the Luminii banner. While there is a ton to talk about when it comes to Luminii, we’re going to narrow it down to just the tape-based products right now.
From its inception, Luminii has been obsessed with great color quality and beautiful outputs. When they acquired optics arts they only bolstered that commitment to great lighting elements. Over time the product offering got to be too robust, with too many overlapping options making it too difficult to find what you need. So each of the sub-brands under the Luminii banner specializes in a certain style of product.
A tape light for all seasons and purposes
The best way to understand the core light engines from Luminii and Optic Arts is to take a look at the Optic Arts page.
Clicking through any of these categories will give you a deep dive into what options are offered, but when you do click through, notice that all of your options are still searchable on the sidebar. So if you started on the static white page, you can still always look for warm dimming tape lights (as an example).
I am a big fan of the search pane, it takes you from a approximately 1 million options to 2 or 3 very quickly.
At the core - a simplified tape lighting system
The simplest way to think about the core tape light offering from Luminii is two basic families. Of course there are warm dimming options, dynamic white options, RGBW options, side bending and backlighting tools and wet location tapes, but day-to-day, in static white this is what you’re likely to use.
Core Performance Features of LL42 and LL72
CRI better than 96 for all CCTs
R9 better than 89 for all CCTs
CCT range includes: 1900K, 2200K, 2400K, 2700K, 3000K, 4500K, and 4100K
Dot-free with the majority of exturisons when using a frosted lens.
Can you see now, why I say it’s the best tape on the market?
When you need more efficacy
There are times when energy code and efficacy rule the day, while LL42 and LL72 offer stunning color and performance, there are times when watts-per-square-foot dictate what you can use. Which is why Luminii offers their LL HE 48 option.
Still 90+ CRI on all CCTs!
A Quick note about channels
Luminii offers a wide variety of extrusions, you can start from the extrusions tab if shape is going to dictate the design, but Luminii also includes a matrix of extrusions on the cut sheet of each tape family. Along with a helpful dotting chart and light transmission values.
The (Literal) Gold Standard Luminii Fixtures
I get it we live in a “value engineering” world and so one of the first things to go is the premium for having the factory pre-build fixtures. That said, if you want to make sure your project looks is absolute best, and take all of the guess work out of the specification, I highly recommend at least considering using Luminii pre-built fixtures. Doing so also gives you a ready made VE. If pre-built fixtures don’t work for the budget, you can always go back to the tape and extrusion solution.
And when you want gold…you should check out the new finishes.
It’s all of the little details
Let’s put this in the bonus content category. Luminii is so obsessive about their product that they actually developed new connectors to make them easier to work with in the field.
I love how they go back and refine even their most common products to make them even better. Take a look at the video and you’ll understand how these simple, no-solder connectors will make an installer’s life so much easier and installations that much more seamless.
