As Light becomes more digital, the lines between design disciplines are blurring
The project above is a guitar shaped Hard Rock Hotel in Florida. The facade with done using SACO LED Video lighting. The patterns shown on the facade are created by feeding video to the LED bars and making a low-resolution version of the image, mapped to the facade of the building. Its technology that has been used by rock bands and TV productions for years and it’s been growing in popularity.
LED plunged lighting directly into the digital world and while the current standard in dimming is 0-10v it will not last. PoE and DALI 2.0 are slowly but steadily building followings. It’s becoming more and more clear to everyone in the industry that we need a digital native solution to LED control. Whether we’re talking about lighting control done by video in the project above or an office laid out with PoE as the central control hub traditional dimming (ELV, MLV, TRIAC, 0-10V) cannot be the way forward when building owners and managers are looking for natively digital building and energy management systems.
I can’t tell you what the winning technology will be, but I can tell you it’s not what we have today.
