Making Adjustments as we return to the almost-before-times

There's a famous anecdote in sociology called the Hawthorne Effect. The effect was observed when scientists raised the light level on a factory production floor, and the workers got faster. Then, they increase it again, and the workers get even quicker, then they lower it, and the workers still went faster, and they lowered it again below the original level, and the workers got more rapid still. This is held up as an example of how subjects of a study will behave when they are aware they are being observed. (Sidebar: this anecdote has been called into question by many experts.)

Whether it is accurate or not, I've been reminded of the Hawthorne Effect lately as I talk with my specifiers. It seems whether we are in quarantine, working in the office, or hybrid, workloads are increasing, and the amount of time given to achieve them is shrinking.

I find myself adjusting as well. As I'm increasingly in the city, I have less time to make product content. So I've decided to modify my strategy rather than fight the tide and drive myself crazy. 

I was sending two emails a week through Delivered Lumens, I'm scaling that back to one email a week, and rather than making so much original content, I'll be sharing content my manufacturers create. 

Delivered Lumens has always been my way of sharing products and ideas that I think are valuable with my specifiers. It started a year before the pandemic; as we return to something like the before-times, it will continue to be a tool for keeping my specifiers up to date!
